Oncology Nurse Specialist, Auckland, NZ
Avril is an oncology nurse specialist who is passionate about working with and for Neuroendocrine patients, and works in a number of Neuroendocrine focused nursing roles. Her other part time roles are as a nurse specialist in Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) at Auckland Hospital and as a research nurse with the NETwork! Project Team who do genomic research on NETs at the University of Auckland. She also is the information and support person for all patients who contact Unicorn Foundation New Zealand. NETs are often described as complicated or confusing, making education and knowledge sharing so vital to understanding what might follow in the way of treatment. Every person’s journey depends on their diagnosis, the extent of their disease as well as any symptoms they may be experiencing making it a very “individual” cancer that requires “individual” treatment. Avril is passionate about educating both patients and health professionals about Neuroendocrine Cancers and their treatments and has undertaken the responsibility of running a NET nurses Workshop in New Zealand for the last 4 years.
